More on Abolitionist Passmore Williamson
Yesterday, I reposted an entry on Passmore Williamson, the abolitionist who was imprisoned for helping a slave. I looked him up this morning and he’s got quite the web presence.  You can read his brief Wikipedia entry.  You can also read a much more detailed account of his rescue attempt, written by student at Swarthmore College. I’m not sure his method for rescue was the best...

Big, hairy pets
I dream pretty intensely.  I always have.  Often my dreams are realistic enough (not necessarily in content, but in feel) that I wake up and am not sure if the experience was imagined.  When they are based in real world content, I can sometimes go through my waking day like I’ve got deja vu or am having false memories.  Last night’s dream was not like that.  It used reality as a...

Dear Library: TRIPPED OUT OF THE GATE →
dearlibrary: Dear Library, Today, I taught an undergraduate (mostly freshman) composition class how to use the library discovery system. It was 78 degrees outside, tomorrow is the first day of spring break, and the professor left five minutes after we got started. You have no idea how thankful I was that…

Snow coverage of North America 2011 and 2012 →
In southern Ontario last year we had an abnormally deep coverage of snow.  The year before it was less snowy (but still snowy enough) and cold.  The year before, also snowy.  I know I wore my snowpants at least a few times over the previous three winters.  This year?  We’ve had very little snow and it’s been incredibly mild for most of the winter.  Considering I’ve spent the...

Some thoughts about the Primaries →
queenbathurst: I think the future is all in Newt Gingrich’s hands. If he drops out right now and throws his support behind Santorum, then Santorum will win the nomination and go on to lose the general election to Obama. If Gingrich stays in the race, he’ll continue to split the conservative vote with Santorum…

Neil Gaiman: As requested by too many people:... →
neil-gaiman: birdartpoetry asked: Mister Gaiman, you’re kickass. I was just wondering, what do you think is the best way to seduce a writer? I figured your answer would be pretty spectacular. In my experience, writers tend to be really good at the inside of their own heads and imaginary people,…

Some fine writing by Baronsandwich : Mike Doughty... →
baronsandwich: I saw Mike Doughty for the first time back in 2008 when he toured for his album Golden Delicious. He brought a full band with him for that show, including his frequent back-up man Andrew “Scrap” Livingston, and performed a highly entertaining set of tunes. We met the man briefly after the…
