I’ll chime in here and say that this applies to role-playing games and video/computer gaming as well. Girls and women are a significant market and we go way beyond games about ponies. Just saying.

It has never bothered me that practically none of my female friends that i have are into comics. Well, into comics outside of going to see them at the cinema. When it came to buying presents for their boyfriends or brothers, they would always come to my shop and enlist me to help them find a comic…
